Youtube Packaging Tip #1: Familiarity Bias/Social Hacking
This channel is a GOOD example of using Familiarity Bias.
These are normal talking head videos with his face in it. This isn’t a faceless channel, but yet, he’s still taking advantage of Familiarity Bias. He’s using Famous People’s Faces to his advantage.

Wait…So… “Why doesn’t he just slap his face on the thumbnail instead?”
Well… Reason #1:
He already did it with 2 thumbnails (highlighted in screenshot below with “His Face”) and they performed the WORST (compared to his other videos)
And…Reason #2 (main reason):
Our brains are naturally drawn to what we are familiar with, specifically to who we know, like, and/or trust.
Right off the bat…
- You see MrBeast’s Face or Alex Hormozi’s Face, you are NATURALLY attracted to the video and you want to CLICK.
- Whereas if it was the creator’s face (no offence @tropicsocial 😭), you wouldn’t click because you don’t know him
Now it’s not just popular faces you can use to take advantage of this.
You can use:
- Logos
- Popular App UIs
- Characters (fictional, etc)
That’s the POWER of Familiarity Bias in YouTube Thumbnails.
